MELISSA BLACK - DIRECT CARE WORKER

APRIL JONES - SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR

Human Support Services (HSS) is pleased to announce the hire of April Jones as a new substance abuse counselor.   April joined HSS on August 25 and holds a Master’s of Counseling degree from Webster University.  Previously she worked in other mental health settings as a chemical dependency counselor, community support specialist, and case manager.  April and her family reside in Belleville.  She enjoys sewing, couponing, and swimming.  She will be providing substance abuse assessments, DUI evaluations, Level 1 groups, IOP groups, and individual counseling to clients needing substance abuse treatment.  April will be supervised by Clinical Director Julie Ruckman, LCSW.

TODD KREBEL - FACILITIES AND VEHICLES MANAGER

Human Support Services (HSS) is pleased to announce the addition of a new position to our Leadership Team:  Facilities and Vehicles Manager.  HSS oversees nine apartment buildings, two group homes and two administrative buildings.  In addition, there are 23 vehicles in our fleet.  HSS has hired Todd Krebel to oversee these assets.  Todd joined HSS on August 29.  Previously he worked at auto dealerships in the St Louis area as well as being an independent carpenter and electrician.  He had been in business management since 1999, has done fleet maintenance for ten years, and general construction since 1989.  Todd resides in Red Bud enjoys cooking and camping.  The Facilities and Vehicles Manager is responsible for the maintenance of all agency buildings and the HSS fleet of vehicles in order to ensure that all property is maintained in a safe and responsible manner.  As a member of the HSS Leadership Team, he joins Executive Director Robert Cole, Chief Financial Officer Susan L Harbaugh, HR Director Trisha Hoagland, Chief Program Officer Anne King, and Clinical Director Julie Ruckman.

MICHELE BOWEN - SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT COORDINATOR

Human Support Services (HSS) is pleased to announce the hire of Michele Bowen as our Supported Employment Coordinator. Michele joined HSS on August 11 and holds a BS in Education from Missouri Baptist University. Previously she worked at the Fox C-6 School District as a special education teacher. Michele and her family reside in Columbia and she enjoys watching baseball, football and hockey as well as reading, dancing and karaoke. She will be working with local businesses to assist clients in finding ideal jobs. Michele will be supervised by Day Training Supervisor, Debi Heck.

JAMES SWEENEY - NEW CASE MANAGER

Human Support Services (HSS) is pleased to announce the hire of James Sweeney as a new case manager.   James joined HSS on August 4 and holds a MSW from SIU-E.  Previously he worked at Big Brothers Big Sisters as a case manager.  James resides in O’Fallon and enjoys watching movies, playing soccer, fishing and working out.  He will be conducting intake assessments, providing crisis intervention services, and providing mental health services to individuals with case management and community support needs.  James will be supervised by Clinical Director Julie Ruckman, LCSW.

NOW HIRING PART-TIME WEEKENDS, $15/HOUR

Human Support Services (HSS) is pleased to announce with the soon-to-open Hecker group homes, it is adopting new staffing patterns.  Residential direct care staff members were given the option to move to Monday through Friday jobs.  This left weekend shifts which were transitioned to 12-hours shifts.  In the process, many new part time employees were hired and openings still remain.  Employees will teach developmentally delayed and mentally ill clients daily living skills to help them live as independently as possible in the community.  In this role, they will teach/assist with daily living skills, pass medications, and provide social skills training.  The employees will be supervised by Site Managers Margie Baum, Dawn Garner or Bobbi Walters.  HSS provides 24-hour supervision to nearly 40 developmentally delayed or mentally ill clients.  Interested in joining our team with $15 per hour weekend work?   Call Trisha at 939-4444 ext 212.

Waterloo, IL, June 26, 2014 – Human Support Services (HSS) is the recipient of the $7,433 proceeds raised from a combination of a memorial Golf Tournament held at Mystic Oaks Golf Course in Waterloo, IL, a matching gift from Amber’s father, Boyd McGathey, and donations from Debra’s co-workers at Carpenters District Council of Greater Saint Louis& amp; Vicinity. Amber was only 22 years old when she died ten years ago in Kansas City from a drug overdose. Amber’s mother, Debra Augustine, who served on the Board of Directors of HSS for six years, presented the check to Executive Director, Robert Cole. The funds will be used by HSS to provide landscaping and a memorial plaque at the two new group homes being built in Hecker, IL to serve adults with developmental disabilities.

Human Support Service, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, was founded in 1973 to provide a local source of mental health services in Monroe County, Illinois. All services are provided on a non-discriminatory basis with disregard for race, color, creed, sex, national origin or handicapping conditions. Services are provided on a sliding-fee scale to ensure that residents of Monroe County are provided with effective, cost-efficient services aimed at helping individuals challenged by mental health concerns, developmental disabilities or substance abuse to build satisfying lives despite the difficulties they face. SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Human Support Services is pleased to announce three Special Olympics athletes, Kristina, Candy and Mike, participated in the Summer Games held in Normal and Bloomington at the Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University campuses June 13 to 15.  They participated in the softball throw, 50 meter run and 100 meter walk, bringing back a bronze and silver medal, as well as ribbon of participation.  During the opening ceremonies, Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill creating a special state lottery scratch-off game to benefit the Special Olympics.

DEBI HECK - DAY TRAINING SUPERVISOR

Human Support Services (HSS) is pleased to announce the promotion of Debi Heck to Day Training (DT) Supervisor.  She previously worked in the HSS workshop as a Production Trainer.   Pierre Mosley replaced her by bidding from the Waterloo/Main street sites to the workshop.  Debi joined HSS in March 2010 as a direct care worker at the Main Street site.  She holds a degree in Communication Disorders from SIU-C and is also a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP).  Debi enjoys reading, antiquing, garage sales and is an avid cookbook collector.  As the DT Supervisor, Debi will develop and manage treatment plans for some 60 developmentally delayed clients that attend day services as well as oversee the Supported Employment program; she will direct a staff of four.  Debi has extensive experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a variety of settings and will be supervised by Anne King, LCSW.  HSS provides day services/workshop to nearly 80 developmentally delayed or mentally ill clients.

DANA BARROWS - QMHP

TRISHA HOAGLAND - HUMAN RESOURCE DIRECTOR

 

Human Support Services (HSS) is pleased to announce Trisha Hoagland as our new Human Resource Director.  Trisha joined HSS on May 19 and holds a degree from Illinois State University.  Previously she worked at PNC Bank in Waterloo and St. Louis.  The Hoagland family resides in Waterloo and enjoys attending Cardinal games, swimming, participating in the kids many activities, going to the movies, and spending time with friends.  Trisha comes to HSS with a successful and long history of community involvement personally, and thru her prior affiliation with the local branch of PNC Bank.  She will be overseeing the human resources functions for HSS’s 85 staff.  As a member of the HSS Leadership Team, she joins Executive Director Robert Cole, Chief Financial Officer Susan L Harbaugh, Chief Program Officer Anne King, and Clinical Director Julie Ruckman.

PART TIME DIRECT SUPPORT WORKERS

Human Support Services, a non-profit community mental health agency located in Monroe County, seeks part time direct support workers.

We are looking for part time dependable caring workers to teach daily living skills and assist adults with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities in agency housing located in Waterloo and soon, Hecker, IL.  Must be 21 or older, high school diploma or GED, driver’s license, pass criminal background check, willing to work shifts other than days.  12 hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday only.  DSP training a plus but not required.  Part time weekend workers will not be offered the benefits package to start and will be paid $15.00 per hour. SITE MANAGER - MARGIE BAUM

 

We’re growing!  Human Support Services (HSS) is pleased to announce the promotion of Margie Baum to site manager for the new Hecker group homes.  She transferred from the day training program to the residential program.  Lynn Turnbow will replace her by moving from the sheltered workshop to the day training program.  Margie joined HSS in November 2001 as a direct care worker at the Main Street site.  She resides in Lenzburg and enjoys reading, shopping and family time.  As a site manager, Margie will supervise staff and clients in a residential group home setting.  She has extensive experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a variety of settings and will be supervised by Tanya Durrer, RN.  HSS provides 24-hour supervision to nearly 40 developmentally delayed or mentally ill clients.
